Loose Threads - Birthday

The December meeting is the time for me to get my Birthday gifts - we do it early on so we can move into "Christmas" mode.
(The Christmas section of our meeting will wait for another post)

This year we each selected a colour and everyone gave gifts in that colour...Perhaps I made it too challenging by picking Teal - then I said Aqua was close enough . . 

Here are my goodies:

KQ - Christmas 2020

Time for the second sewing Christmas gettogether....I haven't posted about #1 yet as there "might" be stuff that I want to keep hidden for now . . LOL

The KQ group celebrated the end of year / Christmas with lunch at the Tingalpa Hotel.

We had decided (mid-October so not much time to do anything special) for a gift that we would use a gift bag and put the following in it;  a treat, 1 metre of lace, braid, or ribbon, a fat quarter, a reel of thread and a Christmas decoration.   

I gave these:

We did a random draw - and I was so lucky to get my gift from Pat.

She gave me these;

• An angel decoration
• Blue/green/purple fabric
• Purple thread
• Colourful butterfly braid
• and my treat - a hand made rope bowl

I suspect that if Pat had known who her gift would go to - she wouldn't have changed anything....I'm very happy with my loot!
(And lunch was excellent too.)

I'm still in "stress" mode....my To Do list is sorted by Date Required.

FNWF - December

Oh oh...the last for the year...and of course I am all up to date and everything is ready . .  .LOL . . .NOT.

I was able to take today off as my Birthday Leave and I spent most of Thursday/Friday working on "Secret Stuff" and getting ready for the first "Christmas" do for the year.

My Saturday group - Loose Threads - are coming to my place so I have an incentive to get some decorations organised and some Secret Stuff done....

No more info on this - but the Thread Angel was looking after me....

I may have got one more "thing" out of this - but I wasn't going to risk it - so this lot has been added to the Thread Bin.  I needed to be out shopping a bit today and have bought more to go on with...how fortuitous that the threads I like are 25% off...

I have not been visiting many blogs lately - and I am sorry about that as I enjoy visiting everyone . . just seems life - work and home is SO busy and the time just disappears....
As a friend of mine said recently "Sleep is overrated"   couldn't agree more - but looking forward to the Christmas break when I can sleep in and I will treat myself to a few days of nothing but reading...well that is the plan.

So, if this is the last time you visit here....Merry Christmas 

and hopefully 2021 will help us all move forward to a more normal world.
I think there is a new "normal" and I am ever so grateful that I live in Australia ...and particularly at the moment in Queensland where we have had only relatively mild disruption to our "normal".
Enough doom & gloom - I'll see you in the New Year.

November finishes

Not really a lot of finishes for the month - a LOT of WIP - or if it's finished I can't show it yet . . .

Firstly my SS UFO #8 - My Postcards quilt - based on Leanne Beasley's pattern Road Trip.
It's not a good picture and I will update it later on.

I customised a lot of it - I did postcards for places we have visited as a family and added images that reflected something significant from the trip.

For example Noosa - our youngest called the pelicans "ducks"  so I did a pelican.

For the Mornington Penisula - again my youngest - was allergic to all dairy products - so when we found a cafe with a non dairy milk shake we were delighted! - hence a milkshake container for that postcard.

And - whilst on retreat recently - I was able to use my second volunteer leave day from work - to make 10 drawstring bags

and 11 stockings

These will all go to Knitting for Brisbane's Needy - K4BN - the same place that gets the crochet blocks that I make.

My November collection - only 5 blocks.

Since I am not in the car every day for 2 trips in and home from work - my crocheting productivity has dropped significantly...but a few blocks help.

There is a lot of other stuff "in the pipeline" but as normal for this time of the year it's all hush-hush.

Hopefully, December's roundup will have "heaps".

Glenrose Retreat - November 2020

It seems I didn't do any posts from the Glenrose retreat in November 2020 - I guess because I didn't take my laptop and went straight back to work when I got home . . .
Anyway - time for a catch-up.

One project I worked on was adding hexies to my Willowbrook stitcheries.
This is most of them - but as at May 2021 - each stitchery is surrounded by hexies but there are no definite plans about how I will join them...... I may need to go shopping????

I made a lot of drawstring bags to pass onto Maria for Knitting for Brisbane's Needy

and some stockings for the same group.

I made a Snappy Pouch for Mr Adorable Grandson.

I'm sure there was a bit more  . . . but no idea what.... 

The year before - we decided we would set ourselves a challenge for completion by this year.

We chose a wall hanging - here is mine:

Now that I am posting this so late - 

it's not long til the next one...and I have 2 things to finish off!

FNSI - November

In all the hurly-burly at this time of the year - FNSI was delayed by a week - but nevermind - we sewers can cope with trivial inconveniences.

But - given that hurly-burly season - what I sewed on was a mystery (in some ways even to me...LOL)  so I can only provide a snippet...

I am very busy with Christmas things as I am sure many of us are....and once again I am promising myself to start earlier in the year...Who am I kidding???

My Birthday @ Sunday Stitchers

At Sunday Stitchers - for 2020 - we drew a name out and gave to that person.
The present was:

• Drawstring bag - approx 12" x 14"

• Something that starts with the first letter of the person's first name

• Something touchy, feely
• Something funny

We have tried to make it as challenging as possible so that one present could fit more than one item....

October Finish

 My Sunday Stitchers UFO #6 was my Gain Pan quilt from 2018.  I kept pretty much up to date with the stitcheries and put the top together last November (gosh a year goes so quickly....).

The lovely quilting fairy Fiona quilted it - a clever pattern so as not to encroach on the stitcheries.

I showed it at the last Sunday Stitchers meeting - and realised I had not added the buttons, so in case you are checking up on me Mdm Quilt Police - they are now done.

One more off the list!!!!   YAY!!!

FNSI - October

I was so glad to read that Mr B was recovering after last month's scare - I imagine Wendy is doing a lot of "nursemaid" duty at the moment - but she still managed to group us together for a virtual sew-in.

A week ago I made a taggie for DD2 to gift to a work colleague for her baby shower.

The friend was SO impressed (??? pretty simple in my eyes) that she has asked me to make another one for a friend of hers (getting paid this time...LOL)

Whilst I was at it I made a second one for one DD1's friends.  This one is a bit smaller as my supply of minky is limited so I'm trying to use what I have.

I also spent some time hand sewing the binding on my UFO #8 ready for Sunday Stitchers. That's a bit of a boring thing - so you will have to wait til I've finished it all.

Tonight,(Saturday night)  I will be joining another cyber sewing night - via Zoom, Sunday is a day out sewing.  After a very torrid time at work lately - I am going to relax and enjoy it all.

FNWF - October

And another month rolls on by...

Tonight - as DH was off to the AFL match at 6.30 (fortunately the right team won) - I had a quick meal  - Better Homes & Gardens on TV and then watching the final of the Great Australian Bake Off that we recorded last night (??)...

This is some of the evidence of tonight's work . . .but there is a media ban on this project - so you will just have to wonder . .  .I will be posting it around the middle of December . . . 
I was quite productive so I'm happy about that.

I hope everyone else has more interesting pictures to show....and as it's a long weekend, I hope to find time to go & visit you all.

  My blog visiting has been a bit slack lately.   

A long work day in front of a screen doesn't make it easy to spend more hours in front of a screen...oh well...work pays for my hobby so I am not complaining ...well trying not to.
