Alana's #2 Baby Quilt & Taggie

Another baby quilt using the coin quilt pattern.  This one is for a Cousin-in-Law of my youngest daughter for her second baby - They didn't find out or reveal the gender ...though statistically it is likely to be a boy.

I found the Australian Animal fabric on sale, and then found a very cute fabric that I used on the back (also a good price) ....interestingly, the pattern runs down the length.

All the cousins that have partners now have two children each and I don't think there is talk of anyone having a third....there is still a Brother-in-Law who is a bachelor...so maybe in the future there will be some more baby coin quilts.

In the meantime, I may make a scrappy one for DV as I have a few pieces already cut...I'll add it to the list...LOL

And of course, I needed to include a taggie for the Cousin-in-Law.  And a daughter of some friends had another baby, so I made one for him. And I made an extra one to give to Lynda, who gave me some flannel she picked up at Scrub Stitchin'

Maybe no more taggies for a while either.

Clayton's Scrub Stitchin' - Day 3 - Thursday

Today was more quilting on My Kinda Town....I could keep adding bits here and there . . .but . . .then the borders - that was quick and no ends to thread in....YAY!!!

I trimmed and added the binding - and sewed two sides on Thursday night in front of the TV.
I only did two sides as my hand starts to hurt a bit when gripping the needle so tightly...LOL

So, back to the machine to start the quilting on a baby quilt.

You might see a red laser line.....A few years back, at a retreat, one of the girls had a Brother machine with a laser light ....very clever I thought ...machine envy . . .

I investigated adding one to my Janome - nothing was easily available.  Sometime later, I saw a Sew Q Laser light offered by an Australian retailer - at a reduced price for pre-orders, and my arm was twisted.  It sat on my desk for quite some time.   When I make these baby quilts, I stitch diagonally across a 2" x 6" rectangle.  If I eye-ball it, it isnt always good.  If I draw a line it is good.   BUT - what to draw the lines in ???    I am not a fan of Frixion pens on fabrics.   I like my Air Erasing pen....BUT...they disappear so I can only do a smallish amount at a time . . . .
It was time to install the laser light.   I am very happy with it for the quilting.
I think it will really come into its own when I do HST...another time.

I am sure all the Scrub Stitchin' girls are hard at it now - I've seen a few facebook posts, but no one is blogging!

Maddie's #2 Baby Quilt & Taggie

Another baby quilt using the coin quilt pattern.  This one is for a Cousin-in-Law of youngest daughter for her second baby - it's a boy, though she either didn't tell anyone what gender it was or didn't find out...

I am very grateful to bestie Maureen who used this pattern to make a quilt for the first of my grandchildren.  I use this pattern for all the baby quilts for friends/relations.  So far I have made it at least 11 times, so this is #12.

I found this lovely fabric to use for the backing...wish I had more of it!

And of course I had to add a taggie.

Two Baby Quilts and Six Taggies

When DD2's partner's cousins have babies, I make a quilt for them, and a taggie.

I use the same pattern each time.  It's easy, its one width of backing fabric and although I buy the two border fabrics, I can usually get the "coins" out of the stash.

I also make taggies - so that was two to make - but recently one of the couples in our playgroup (Children are now 30++,  but we still catch up occasionally) has recently become grandparents to a boy from their second daughter, but the eldest daughter is due with twin boys this month.  So - 5 taggies needed.  And a friend is expecting a new great grand baby, so I made one for her too.

Even though "Frugal" is not my word for the year, I economised and used what I had...so they are all flannelette (no minkee) and some are smaller (approx 10" square) instead of the usual 12"  square.

Stay At Home Scrub Stitchin' (aka Claytons Scrub Stitchin') - Day 5

Sunday

Well, the advantage of not being at Baradine is that I do not need to spend the day traveling.  Instead, I can sew.

Firstly, I needed to finish these two blocks.  They measure 6.5" x 12.5"  They are not due for a while yet, but good to get them out of the way.

Then I figured I better finish off the eyes on my RSC fish.  That was quick!

I couldn't put it off any longer - had to do the grocery shopping...:  😢


But back in my Sewing Space, I started the quilting on one of the quilts Maureen and I pinned on Friday.  Very simple - all walking foot - though a lot of twisting & turning to do the diagonals on the rectangles...after that - a whizz!

This shows half the rectangles done - I finished them off before I called it a night.

I have had a great Claytons retreat...certainly not as much fun as the real thing.....But it was wonderful when Chooky did the Zoom meeting...the room looked the same, but different.  The faces were mostly familiar and it all felt very warm & fuzzy.

I hope everyone who attended had a great time - sending more hugs to poor Brenda - and all the best to those who are still travelling home.

Meg's Baby #2 Quilt

I have finished a baby quilt for DD2's Cousin-in Law (is that a "thing"?) amd was able to gift it today.

I found the border fabric in the new Patchwork shop in Coonabarabran on my way to Scrub Stitchin' at Baradine earlier in the year.  It is so lovely...I couldn't resist it!!! (and the yellow spot fabric.)

The backing has Australian Animals and is also very cute.

I thought I was having a rest from baby quilts for DD's "in Law" family . .but no . . seems more will be needed about April....plenty of time!.

Baby Quilt & Taggie

I have finished the latest baby quilt and matching taggie.   These are for my DD2's Brother & Sister in Law - and their #2 baby - Kayce, who was born a little early - just before Christmas.

I used the brown elephant flannel on the back of this quilt - featuring dinosaurs.

Hopefully mum & bub will enjoy it.

Baby Quilt

This is a tried & true pattern for a baby quilt - a good size for tummy time - some is made from stash and it ends up 39" wide so only one width of fabric is required for the back and it sits on my cutting table easily enough for pinning.

This one is for my DD2's Sister in Law - who has just had her baby - 1 month and one day after DD2 had hers.

March Projects

March is drawing to a close and it's unlikely there will be any other finishes this month.

Finished the last 4 pineapple coasters for DD2

completed a baby quilt - and the baby isn't due til the end of April

and made a heart block for Michelle who is going through a tough time

That will have to do - lots happening but it's all WIP

July Projects

I'm still crocheting away whenever the opportunity strikes (refer to the comic here).

Since the last time I dropped off some blocks to Maria - in April - I have made another 31 blocks.

My Sunday Stitchers group are finally able to meet physically tomorrow - so off they go to her for some TLC, some black edging and joining to make blankets for cold, needy people.

Bluebird Lane

My UFO Number four July was #12 - that was going to be to 'knit some wool jumpers for penguins" (from wool kindly donated by Fiona) - but alas! by the time I got to do them - it seems there are plenty and they are no longer required.  (some mixed tenses here- my mother would have a stern word . . .)
So I was able to swap another project for #12. - I picked Bluebird Lane as it only needed the binding.  Many thanks to Fiona again for her lovely quilting.
I had no decent sized pieces to make the binding from - so I tried one of the destash sites - and lucky me - someone had half a metre of one of the reds that I was after so I was able to finish it easily enough.

Baby Quilt

And this time the baby quilt is for my hairdresser - well my "colourist".  (She has now had her baby girl.) Her mother has been cutting my hair for years (I must check - but at least 15), but she is now not working on "my day" so I am about to "train" the newbie in both colour and cut!. 

I have found this pattern to be so easy - the fabric can make it fun or pretty...whatever.

and I found a very cute backing:

I've made them so that the top finishes at 39" wide so only one length of fabric is needed for the backing.   And a very uncomplicated quilting pattern.

Taggies x 2

I added a taggie to go with the quilt  - again a very simple project, but fun to choose what bits get added.

My podiatrist's partner is also due to have a baby, (he doesn't know what the sex is) so if I'm making one  . . . I may as well make 2 . . .

I had posted these earlier but they weren't quite finished.

Phew - a productive month and it's not over yet!
But as I'm off to Townsville for a week - there may not be any more finishes for July.

January Finishes - Baby Quilts & a Pincushion

It seems babies come in groups - well that is what seems to happen for me...My youngest's partner has two female cousins who are expecting babies this month - one has arrived and one will be here on the 28th.

So, of course, I had to make quilts for each.  We have always know the second one was a boy - I saw the ultrasound pic - there is absolutely no doubt about that one - LOL - the other was was an "unknown" - and now we know it is also a boy.  It will be lovely for them to grow up together as the whole family is very close.

I have tried to use some of what I already have - but I did buy the orange in both of these and the borders.

Baby 1:
This largely made from left overs from a quilt that Maureen made for my eldest daughter when she had little Luka.  I was able to buy a few more to add to the collection.

For the backing I chose this fun print.

Baby 2:
The dad is fond of Tonka trucks and I was able to source some fabric with the trucks on it.. And I couldn't resist the other truck fabric

The couple also have 2 dogs, so I thought this backing was great.

I also made Mrs Pinny. (strictly speaking Ms. Pinny Cush by Amy Bradley Designs)

I originally made 3 of these as gifts in 2015 (here) for various people and didn't quite get around to making one for me.

There is a bit more happening here . . . .but I don't think there will be any more January finishes.

Baby Quilt

I have posted a few pictures of this quilt in its various stages but it is finished now and handed over to the owner.

I have made this for one of my work colleagues who became a grandmother for the first time only a month or so earlier than me - sadly for her - her grandchild is in the UK!!!

When discussing colours - she initially suggested "ice pink"....I suggested to her - that it might be easier if she visited a patchwork shop and looked at fabrics - I gave her an idea of how much to buy etc - and notes about the pattern I would be using (I had shown her a few samples) - and I did expect the people running the shop would give her some help - they didn't!!!...but she decided on the fabrics. 
I must admit when I first saw them I was a bit "Oh...mmm....", but the more I worked on it - the more I liked it.   Maybe I will get her to pick fabrics for me ...???

I do hope she and her daughter like it.

Some Finishes in April (7)

I join in with Kris who has continued running OPAM, so am claiming these as April finishes.  I had kept some of them under wrap as they were gifts or were waiting for the "right" time to show them.

Firstly two sets of foot pedal mat, scrap bucket & coaster - for Birthday gifts for members of KQ Girls.

Last year at Baradine - I received a bundle of flannel scraps as a mystery gift.  Never one to shy away from a challenge...LOL....I decided they had to become some sort of a quilt.  The sizes of the bits were quite random, so I cut 2.5" and 4.5" squares and made 4.5" blocks from the 2.5" ones and then set about trying to organise them,...It is probably not as symmetrical as I would like - but I ended up with only one 4.5" square left over.  I found the brown check flannel at a cheap price and - again - probably not my first choice - but it went well enough with the other fabrics.
Voila - a quilt!

DD2 loves monkeys so I might keep this one

...in case...one day...maybe...(no pressure Bec!)

Also last year at Baradine we received a kit to make a tote bag - a lovely stitchery of the logo was included and a charm pack...as well as some EPP shapes.   I started off with gluing the EPP shapes at retreat....but upon consideration,decided a tote bag was not really my thing - so I made a zippy pouch, a scrap bucket, a coaster and a pin cushion.   I used some of the fabrics on the back of the zippy pouch.   I still have a number of covered EPP pieces.....they may be sitting around for a while....maybe a needle book????

At Baradine this year - one of my projects was to make a Jelly Roll race quilt.  This jelly roll was gifted to me by a friend, so I thought it was only fair to "pay it forward" and this top will go off to a group who make quilts for charity groups - so a finish in my eyes!

My swap present for this year was a scrap bucket, pin cushion, coaster and a machine foot pedal mat...I do like to repeat myself....LOL

I have also finished a baby quilt for the daughter of a friend.  This pattern is so quick and easy - I can see a few more in my future.....

So, I will count that as 7 finishes so far...

not too bad I think and there will also be a pile of crochet blocks to add after Sunday
HOWEVER, 

none of these are on my SS UFO list...for that I am woefully behind . . .
