Sunday Stitchers UFO List #6

As the year draws to a close, we take time to reflect on our achievements.. for the year....
(let's gloss over our non achievements).
[waffle waffle]   But we do have a month to go!!!

De proposed a Sunday Stitchers UFO Challenge for the year. Most of us created a list of 12 things that we wanted to "get done" - it didn't have to be a finish - it could be as simple as "work on XXXX"
Most of us have joined in enthusiastically and even if we didn't always do what ever it was that we were "supposed" to do - we all celebrated our achievements.

I am pretty happy with my progress - December's number is 11 and I am almost guaranteed to have that one finished by our next meeting.   So, I have one failure...#5.... It might go on next year's list - or maybe I will get it done over the Christmas break....we will have to wait & see.

November's number was 6 - this is my Mrs Beasley's Sampler - which as some of you know was a very long drawn out story...I started this about January 2014 and was finally able to start the 4th block in January 2017.

Now its quilted (lightly) and I can say "It's Done"...yay

and some close ups - I ditched most of the blocks
and then added some machine embroidery

I used a feather stitch on my machine to applique the dresden plates

The colours are so soft & pretty - I'm glad to have it done and although it was very disappointing to have to wait for so long to get the rest of the pattern (and there was no communication to explain or apologise)...I do love it.

FNSI - January

A month goes by so quickly...here we are already 2/3rd through January!!

Friday Night Sew In and I was stitching Block 4 of Mrs Beasley's sampler - I am looking forward to finishing this quilt - it is so soft and pretty - and a slightly different look for me...

There is a lot of work in those butterflies!!

I hope all my fellow FNSIers had a productive time.  Thanks again Wendy for the motivation to sew in a cyber group.

Mrs Beasley's Sampler

A while back...quite a while in fact...I and two friends decided to make Mrs Beasley's Sampler Quilt from Leanne Beasley.
We had a sewing day today and we all had our blocks there...quite by accident - so I took some photos.

As you can see we are at various stages for the most recent block  and I still have some stitching to do on Block #2 - the alphabet.

Inca and I are using softish pastels - Inca's:

  Mine:

Maureen is using a stronger colour set.

We all have several other projects we are working on but we all hope to get this one done before the next magazine arrives....

FNSI April

It was a night for sewing with all my cyber mates...I was prepped, I was eager....but I still get didn't get a lot done - I think my lounge chair is far too comfy and I should machine sew on Friday night so I don't fall asleep.

But here is some of what I did...

On Saturday I had some more sewing time so I've been able to get all the April blocks done - there should be two little bees in the small circles instead of hexies - but they are just not my thing - not sure I'll stick with the dragon fly either ...but enough done for me to get a sign off from Chooky.

And then I thought I'd cut the necessary pieces for the one block of Farm Girl Vintage...I'm going to (probably) join in the Sew a Long on IG but the strawberry will have to be included - along with the sheep block , and I was so keen to start (yet another project...) so I got this ready...

When I saw I was supposed to have 22 different reds - and red being one colour I do not have a lot of - I wondered how many repeats I would need to include...[I am NOT absolutely NOT going to buy fabric for this!!!!]...but I found the necessary 22 - the green wasn't so hard.

So, its ready to sew together...I will probably do some re arranging of colours ...these design boards do make life easier.

Then - since the house was quiet (DH & DD were at the AFL) I cut out the next block for Mrs Beasleys sampler...I'm loving this quilt and although we had to wait ages for Block 3 - its not such a problem - I did have one or two other things to occupy me!!

This block is upside down and the white dresden "paper"
will obviously get covered...just need a fabric...
and this is part of the block too.

so, I can sew that when I get time....

I find that since I am work 4 days a week - and long days at the moment, that preparation is the killer...if I only start at 9pm, it's hard to get motivated to get out all the fabrics and play around...and to me choosing the fabrics is the fun part.

Hopefully I'll get around to catching up on some of the others who joined in..maybe not - but a big thanks to Wendy for coordinating FNSI.

Saturday Night's Progress

I have made a fair dent in my "Hope To Do' list.

  1. Finish the mystery heart row
  2. Sew all the various bits onto my Quilt Diva...been putting that off for a looong time
  3. A baby quilt for a premmie baby
  4. Mend my husbands tie - that is to help keep me out of the bad books and re hem one leg of a pair of trousers
  5. Buy and put onto bobbins the newest DMC colours
  6. Update my list of DMCs to include the new colours
  7. Sew the binding on Best Friends
  8. Finish Block 10 of my Quilty Cross Stitch
  9. Finish the machine applique on Mrs Beasley's #2 block
  10. Add the snow to the North Pole blocks that I have already done
  11. Prepare the final stitchery block of French Collection
And I didn't really start til lunchtime - had to do the taxi service & groceries first (and the thread shopping) - but they are all the easy peasy things...tomorrow may be a different story.

So here is my Mystery heart row

These are the "bits" to sew onto the wall hanging - 34 of them...

The baby quilt   (bad lighting at night time)...made from bits left over from this quilt.

NO photo of tie/pants.....boring stuff

Threads before

and after

Can't show you the list - but you are welcome to a copy if you like to keep your DMCs in colour groups...just let me know.

and Mrs Beasley Sampler Block #2...still a bit to go on this but all the applique is done now...

I have had a fun time joining in with Chookyblue and her friends..I am sure I can hear the giggling even here...Sleep well girls - tomorrow is another BIG day.

FNSI - April

How fortuitous that FNSI fell on Good Friday - a holiday - no work - lots of sewing to do.

During the day & night I worked on joining more sets of squares into rows of 20

Did a decorative stitch down the middle of some strips of white

Some reverse sewing on a bag I bought recently

to give it a "box" bottom
(needed another bag for sewing group days)
and some hand stitching

I had a few other "Duties" too and normally I wouldn't talk about such mundane things - but we have had a garage full of "Stuff" for sometime...too embarrassed to say how long...and we have started to organise and get rid of stuff - including 2 garbage bags full of videos and music cassettes....but I found a box of fabric - groan...but in that bax was something I mislaid way back in July 2013 so now I can finally finish it off.

Still 3 more days of holidays, work for 2 and another 4 days off - love it when Easter & Anzac Day almost collide....

Happy Easter to everyone .

FNWF Results

Last night I joined in with 63 other people and we had our first cyber hug for 2014.

Even though I have all that company I still enjoy watching Better Hones & Gardens, so I usually hand stitch on Friday nights.  This week I worked on:

No special treats last night - we had been out for a quick Middle Eastern meal, so I settled for a coffee.

Hope you all had a great night sewing and can do more over the weekend....and now only one week until FNSI....

Thanks to Cheryll for hosting us!  Pop over if you want to be able to visit a lot of other "workers".
