October Finishes

I am not doing so well in my UFO Finishes this year....not that I am sitting around twiddling my thumbs...but I do have progress....

I managed 5 crochet blocks this month - not a lot but it all helps.

I made a taggie for a friend of my eldest daughter for her second baby due early 2020.

And for the same friend -
I finished one of the Alphabet books that I have on the list for this year:

I really enjoy making these - finding the right fabric for the right letter,
making little mini quilts for "Q".
and I use a picture of the recipient's cat or dog for "C" and "D".

And I finished Welcome Home in Spring.  This was an extravagant purchase - it came as a precut kit - the fusible webbing attached and all I had to do (all???) was place the bits on...sew it ..and make the quilt.   I had the blocks all together by retreat time in 2018...so for me - it's not too long ago!
Most people know I do not do things by the pattern and I have rarely bought a kit.  But, true to form I did change a couple of things - I replaced the horizontal sashing and I used the border fabric for the binding instead of the supplied check fabric....but really there wasn't a lot of scope for variation.
It has been beautifully quilted by Fiona.  I like that it is not overly quilted...but it is not a soft & cuddly quilt due to all the fusible webbing...now to hang it for a while...where ????

Still a lot of "To Dos", but a few ticked off the list.

October FNWF

Another Friday Night Cyber Party!!!   yay!!

Tonight I stitched some of the sun rays for the middle block of Welcome Home in Spring - as I am so close to finishing the top I thought I'd best do this before I join it all together.

Then - as Saturday was a Loose Threads sewing day I needed to prepare some hand stitching - these are two of the September blocks from the Gail Pan Stitch Club.
The October ones will be here this week - so I am not up to date - but not too far behind either.

The sewing was done on Saturday...I was a bit late taking the photo!

Hope everyone had a fun night...wishing you all a happy month!

September FNSI

My usual schedule for Friday night - watching Better Homes & Gardens and some crocheting:

I found this variegated yarn at the local discount shop - after checking with Maria - we decided it was suitable for the indigenous blankets she makes.  I will make some plain red ones to go with this lot.

Then into Susan's Sewing Space and to make some progress on my Welcome Home In Spring blocks. This is my SS UFO Project #8 - my goal was to "prepare" the blocks - which I did and then I did a lot of the appliqueing when at retreat in August - but I still had all the windows to do - and they are a tad fiddly.
First you need to put the ric rac on the windows - I glued along the lines - placed the ric rac...waited for it to dry and then folded the edges over - that does make it all a bit bulky - and then had to iron the windows onto the houses....In hindsight - I think I would have preferred to stitch the lines with a triple stitch - but I'm too far down the track now!  and after ironing them into place I did the blanket stitch....- this is just one of the houses - but there are a LOT of windows to go.

Oops - sideways - I'm sure you get the idea!

I was happy to keep Wendy company on Friday - along with a lot of other happy sewers - I think she enjoyed having us all bubbling around!

Retreat Day 4

And today we have:
Inca's Leaders & Enders Charity Quilt top

Louise's Bread basket
 Alison's Jelly Roll Quilt #1
 & #2

Maureen's Tilda blocks from Tula Pink's 100 modern quilt blocks

Finally something from me - Jingle All the Way Quilt top with one star block to go
 Another dress from Erica

 Maureen's Table topper
 Cheryl's crochet rug

Belle & Pearl - these girls go on one yearly outing.

Most of my time here has been spent machine blanket stitching these blocks...still a way to go - but I've made good progress.

Just a few hours of sewing on Tuesday ....then sadly we wait 12 months to return.
