July Projects

Crochet blocks for K4BN

I'm still crocheting away whenever the opportunity strikes (refer to the comic here).

Since the last time I dropped off some blocks to Maria - in April - I have made another 31 blocks.

My Sunday Stitchers group are finally able to meet physically tomorrow - so off they go to her for some TLC, some black edging and joining to make blankets for cold, needy people.

Bluebird Lane

My UFO Number four July was #12 - that was going to be to 'knit some wool jumpers for penguins" (from wool kindly donated by Fiona) - but alas! by the time I got to do them - it seems there are plenty and they are no longer required.  (some mixed tenses here- my mother would have a stern word . . .)
So I was able to swap another project for #12. - I picked Bluebird Lane as it only needed the binding.  Many thanks to Fiona again for her lovely quilting.
I had no decent sized pieces to make the binding from - so I tried one of the destash sites - and lucky me - someone had half a metre of one of the reds that I was after so I was able to finish it easily enough.

and some close ups

was it the buildings that sucked me in??

Baby Quilt

And this time the baby quilt is for my hairdresser - well my "colourist".  (She has now had her baby girl.) Her mother has been cutting my hair for years (I must check - but at least 15), but she is now not working on "my day" so I am about to "train" the newbie in both colour and cut!.

I have found this pattern to be so easy - the fabric can make it fun or pretty...whatever.

and I found a very cute backing:

I've made them so that the top finishes at 39" wide so only one length of fabric is needed for the backing.   And a very uncomplicated quilting pattern.

Taggies x 2

I added a taggie to go with the quilt  - again a very simple project, but fun to choose what bits get added.

My podiatrist's partner is also due to have a baby, (he doesn't know what the sex is) so if I'm making one  . . . I may as well make 2 . . .
I had posted these earlier but they weren't quite finished.

Phew - a productive month and it's not over yet!
But as I'm off to Townsville for a week - there may not be any more finishes for July.

FNSI (well no S in it this month)

Oops - its Friday Night and I was signed up to sew!!

I didn't - but I was doing craft-related stuff - I had to sort out the pile of stuff to take to our first Sunday Stitchers meeting in sooolong...(there is a LOT to take), sort out a few things so bestie can come & stay while we are in Townsville visiting Mr Adorable Gtrandson,
and I did a bit of blog post preparation.

So, sorry - really my heart was with you all and I will do better next time!

Pencil cases

I don't do a lot of machine embroidery - but every so often something catches my eye - and as I'm due to visit Mr Adorable Grandson - when I saw this Pencil Case on the Sweet Pea site - I just had to make it for little Luka - he is a bit young for drawing at the moment, but I'm sure it won't be too long.

I thought it best to follow the rainbow colours - as a learning tool.
(yep - I know - should be 7 colours but the pattern only had 6....)

- and you know me - I ALWAYS STICK TO THE PATTERN......NOT

and after mastering the technique I decided to make a second one....it will be a gift ...for one day . . .
For those in the know - it's all done "In the Hoop" - the only hand sewing is about 4" for the lining.
I think if I make a few more I may put them together like
a zippy pouch with tabs at the end of the zip.   But it was fun picking the colours....and different from my normal projects.

Pin Book

What is a Pin Book?? Well, I guess if you make a needlebook specifically for pins - it's a Pin Book.

Presents for the Loose Threads members this year is a gift or gifts in a colour selected by the recipient.

Inca had a birthday in late March - but of course, we were in lockdown and have only just met up.

Inca had chosen red - I gave Inca a scissor doo dad - made with beads and charms and I forgot to photograph that - but I also made her some number pins.  They are very basic - a long flower head pin, a bit of glue and some number beads.
But I thought I'd best make something to keep them in - hence the Pin Book.

That was the red present back here.
I also forgot to photograph the purple present,
so it will have to wait for another day.

Not really sewing / crafty . . .but related

This a sort of work thing -
I work for a very large company - but there is a small group of us who have worked together for 30 or so years (from when we were a small privately run company), so we know each other fairly well.

One of those people sent me a link to these two cartoons.

I don't think I need to say any more.

FNWF - July

Happy New Financial Year!!

Maybe not as big a celebration as the end of the calendar year - but a milestone nevertheless.

Thanks to our ever gracious hostess Cheryll - grateful to have a cyber party to escape to after a long workday.  (say no more...it's only going to get worse.)

My usual regime:
Easy take away dinner - one night of the week when DH organises the food.

Crocheting along with BH&G.

Followed by my escape - this time I worked on two taggies for some new parents.

I almost finished them - just the edge stitching to do.

Tomorrow is a Loose Threads meeting - a sewing day - it will be a celebration on a few fronts - our first meeting for ages....- one of our gang turned 90 in March - so we have presents & cake and we have another late birthday to celebrate - more presents - same cake!
We have a colour theme for each person this year:

Tomorrow night DH is off to the AFL with DD & friends - the AFL puts up a ballot to allocate tickets - each winner gets two tickets - but for some odd reason they separate the two seats - not by a few seats or a row or two - but "miles" apart.... Footballers!
Anyway both DH & DD scored the option to purchase two tickets each - so they have invited some friends to go.
Guess I will just have to amuse myself in:
