Blog Row Quilt

Quite a while ago - in the Blog group that met on Sundays back then, we were encouraged to do a row quilt.  Those of us participating made a row for our own quilt, packed a bag with some fabrics that we wanted to be included or used as a guide to other fabrics that could be used.

Our first row had to be flowers. (it ended up as the bottom row)

Each row needed to be added to the quilt and finished by the next monthly meeting and was passed to the next person (hidden in the paper bag so there was no peeping...!!!).

We had rows for: Stars, Hearts, Circles, Pin wheels, Baskets & Hexagons.(I no longer remember the order of the rows - I have since re organised them.)  It got a bit challenging as our rows were 5" finished ...tricky if you are trying to use standard blocks . . .LOL
Once we collected out quilt tops - in the paper bag....we had to add an embroidery/stitchery row.

For my final embroidery row - I added a "header" - with the wording 'Sunday Stitching with Friends'  and I added the name of each person in the challenge and a symbol to represent the row they made - I'm very grateful . . now . . .that I did that as I would never have remembered.

By December 2014 we had finished our rows....One person had theirs quilted...There's always one high achiever!!!!.

I posted it here:

I know 2 people who have since finished.

I added it to my Sunday Stitchers UFO Challenge List for 2020 - so it's all done now.
When it was discovered that the project for June (#11) was the Row Quilt  - one other participant in the original row quilt challenge decided she would work on hers too.  She did do some work but didn't get to finishing it.

it's done!

That Challenge List is so good.  Without it - it would still be sitting in the UFO box - now after its initial showing - it will probably sit in the "Done" pile!!!

My usual Friday night - some crocheting whilst watching  BH&G

Then I did the hand sewing of the binding on this:

Thanks to Wendy our gracious hostess and lovely to catch up with 19 or so bloggy friends from all over.  Catch the others here.

Happy Weekend all & happy sewing if you can get the time.

So Much Has Been Happening

Thursday - a small & quiet sewing get together...and some presents for me!!

Friday - out for dinner - and some presents for me!!

Saturday - a Sewing get together - and some presents for me!! (and others)

Sunday - a Sewing get together - and some presents for me (and others)

Well, it was my Birthday - and early Christmas swaps etc...

Here is some of what I got from Thursday./ Saturday

Sunday was Sunday Stitchers
a few "extra" little gifts were shared...

These little surprise gifts are always special - especially since they are unexpected and made with a lot of love.
I've decided I really need a "tree" this year.....I haven't worried lately as my girls are all grown up and there are no littlies around - and we have a cat who is just going to love to try to climb it...but this year I going to try to find a big branch or similar just so I can hang all these special decorations.
..and my gorgeous table runner from Noela - my swap partner.
(its going to look great on the dining table)
...and a decoration

...and a cute reindeer container - it did have chocolates in it - but I think DH & DD2 have had a share...not many left now.....

It was also time for me to receive birthday fat quarters from everyone - Wow!  what a great collection

Then it was time for us to reveal our Row-a-longs:
too many for one shot - De, Marilyn & Noela

and me, Maree & Debbie

a close up of mine....(just because....)

Most of us still have some work to do on them..Maree finished hers - even quilted but the rest of us seem to have other things to do...so it's on my Christmas To Do list   (I do need a 6 month break to catch up but...maybe not...)

Phew - what a weekend...at least there is a bit of a break until the next Christmas party.

FNWF - August

I joined in with all the other FNWF'ers but not a lot I can show for my efforts this time round.
I did some tracing and ironing of circly shapes for my row quilt and I can't show that though these may or may not be a hint:

I really love this fabric so if its missing from YOUR bag when it's returned you will know who to look at!

I filled a lot of bobbins ready for next weekend - not very exciting that part.

I sorted a few things ready to pack...Very boring.   But all necessary.

I hope to do better next time.  Hopefully you were all a lot more productive.

FNSI - July

Last night was spent in the company of 56 other like minded souls all over the place - sewing away.  Had a few emails with a fellow hexie maker - we kept each other going - or was it the looming deadline??
I had a hexie row to finish for Sunday and as usual, I cant show you what I did, so I thought I'd show you what I to work with . .Lovely fabrics

We only have two more rows to make until we can do the "reveal".
Thanks Wendy for a being a charming hostess yet again - those apple turnovers sure looked good.
Pop over here if you want to have a fun time visiting.

PS - Do you see the "Days Until" counter over on the right - yep 3 weeks and I will be "on retreat" sewing away constantly - oh and maybe a bit of chatter, laughing, eating . . .Got a few thing to prep before but making progress on that.
