FNSI - September

Wendy has very graciously organised for us to gather to sew and share our fun with all, whilst she is focused on her husband who is in hospital and hopefully doing well.

I got a FriDaySewIn- I am on retreat - yes - again!!!   This is my third retreat in about a month - that is very greedy -isn't it??? - considering many of you are in isolation or are subject to some serious restrictions.

We have a few restrictions - no shared food, everyone has their own shower & toilet - although in a shared bathroom, tables separated a bit more than normal....but that is not holding us back.

I'm only here sewing for 3 days and took a limited amount of projects to do.

Tonight I worked on this. - My Stringalong blocks which will become a colourful table cloth.

I've  decided to leave it like this for now and will do the horizontal strips at home.

I hope you are all doing OK in this strange world.  Sewing does keep us sane and - for me - is a great escape from "all that other stuff".

Thanks Wendy - I do hope Mr B is progressing well.  Sending you many hugs & lots of strength.

Stringalong - September

It's past time for the monthly post on String-along blocks.

I made 17 blocks in September - I had a sewing day - 2 boxes of strips and just went for it....I had a goal to finish them off - and I did.  That makes 88 blocks completed.  That will make a table cloth of 8 x 11 blocks.

I think this has been the easier part of the project.
Next step is to arrange them.  As I am making this reversible and there are 11 different fabrics on the backs and anywhere from 2 - 12 blocks of each fabric...  (using what I had)....I need to come up with some sort of pattern for the back, whilst keeping the front nice....could be difficult.

Then I need to sash the sides of the blocks...make rows...then join the rows.
That is not going to happen this year.

Then add the binding.

It's been a lot of fun sewing along with sewers from all over the world and I am happy I joined in with Lori.

And even if you don't want to look at the other stringalong projects - Lori has been camping - the wintery landscape shots are stunning - especially as we do not see anything like that in most of Australia - well probably not anywhere in Australia!!!

Stringalong August (2019)

I'm late for my August Stringalong blocks.

Only 6 this month...slow progress...too many other projects happening and work is full on.
That brings the total to 71.  That means I am at 80% done for the blocks.

Stringalong 2019 (July)

Time for my July Stringalong blocks.

Again I had a sewing day out and concentrated my blocks - we have a stash of fabric where I go so I raided some strips we had left over from an old project

I got 8 done this time.  That brings the total to 65.  That means I am at 74% - maybe I can exaggerate a bit and say 3/4 done...that's encouraging.

Stringalong 2019 (June)

This post is a bit late . .  .but here are my June Stringalong blocks.

I was very focused this time and managed 12 in an afternoon at KQ sewing.

That brings the total to 57.  I need 88 in all...so that means I have done 65% - of the blocks - after that comes organising them into a "pleasing arrangement" . .  LOL and sewing them together.

A quick post to show April's string blocks - another 9 - That brings the total to 38 - I need 88 in all...I am happy for this to be a long term project . . no rush...plenty of other "Must Dos"

Stringalong 2019 (January)

Hello to the Stringalong quilters that are participating along with Lori.

It is time for me to post my Month 1 blocks - pop over here for the link up to see a wide variety of stringalong blocks.

These are the blocks I have done so far - the plan is to make a reversible table cloth.  I will need 88 blocks in all.   I will be sashing them top and bottom with black.  I have sewn these onto a fabric foundation - no batting in between.   (and no paper to remove!!!! YAY!!!).  Next time I will show the backs as well.

I expect I will lay them out in this pattern - though for now this is just random placement.

FNSI - January

Thanks Wendy - and hi everyone whos is visiting via FNSI !!!

I had plans to get more done - but DD2 dropped in for a visit, so dinner was late and sewing was late!!

I'm a bit restricted in what I can do, due to my operation on my right index finger....but I'm doing hat I can.
I've drawn diagonal on these fabric squares ready to strip piece - I'm joining in with a String Quiltalong so trying to get prepared.

You really have to look - but there is a line across that block.

I put side borders on a quilt that my KQ Girls group have put together to give to a charity, (no picture yet - it needs an iron) and I joined sets of two of these hexie flowers ready to be made into 12" blocks.  

These will be teamed with some foundation paper hearts and 4 12" crazy patch hearts.
During 2018, we had a series of mini-tutorials - where whoever had done a technique shared their skills with anyone else who was interested.  We used pink and white fabrics - with some green.
Some more photos later on.

So, not so much done...but any progress is good.

Many thanks to Wendy for continuing FNSI into 2019.  I've said it many times before - but it's great motivation to sew and also to post on my blog - which in turn becomes a great reference point for when I wonder..."when did I start this???"
