Alana's #2 Baby Quilt & Taggie

Another baby quilt using the coin quilt pattern.  This one is for a Cousin-in-Law of my youngest daughter for her second baby - They didn't find out or reveal the gender ...though statistically it is likely to be a boy.

I found the Australian Animal fabric on sale, and then found a very cute fabric that I used on the back (also a good price) ....interestingly, the pattern runs down the length.

All the cousins that have partners now have two children each and I don't think there is talk of anyone having a third....there is still a Brother-in-Law who is a bachelor...so maybe in the future there will be some more baby coin quilts.

In the meantime, I may make a scrappy one for DV as I have a few pieces already cut...I'll add it to the list...LOL

And of course, I needed to include a taggie for the Cousin-in-Law.  And a daughter of some friends had another baby, so I made one for him. And I made an extra one to give to Lynda, who gave me some flannel she picked up at Scrub Stitchin'

Maybe no more taggies for a while either.

Two Baby Quilts and Six Taggies

When DD2's partner's cousins have babies, I make a quilt for them, and a taggie.

I use the same pattern each time.  It's easy, its one width of backing fabric and although I buy the two border fabrics, I can usually get the "coins" out of the stash.

I also make taggies - so that was two to make - but recently one of the couples in our playgroup (Children are now 30++,  but we still catch up occasionally) has recently become grandparents to a boy from their second daughter, but the eldest daughter is due with twin boys this month.  So - 5 taggies needed.  And a friend is expecting a new great grand baby, so I made one for her too.

Even though "Frugal" is not my word for the year, I economised and used what I had...so they are all flannelette (no minkee) and some are smaller (approx 10" square) instead of the usual 12"  square.

Meg's Baby #2 Quilt

I have finished a baby quilt for DD2's Cousin-in Law (is that a "thing"?) amd was able to gift it today.

I found the border fabric in the new Patchwork shop in Coonabarabran on my way to Scrub Stitchin' at Baradine earlier in the year.  It is so lovely...I couldn't resist it!!! (and the yellow spot fabric.)

The backing has Australian Animals and is also very cute.

These are for her second baby- Spencer.

I thought I was having a rest from baby quilts for DD's "in Law" family . .but no . . seems more will be needed about April....plenty of time!.

Two Taggies

Finished two little taggies recently.  One for DD2's Cousin-in-Law and one for a friend.

and I've just heard that the daughter of a friend is expecting...

back to the sewing machine for another one!

FNSI (2) - July

Tonight was our second FNSI for July - a "Christmas in July" Night.

I was meant to be away . . . but  . ..things happen...so I had a FriDay Sew In.   There were a few distractions during the day, but I managed to get three taggies done.

This one is for the new grandie - Montana  (a bit late)...but it has "Wild" on it.

These are for babies due in September (a bit early).

Thanks for the extra FNSI Wendy - not that most of us need an excuse to sew!!!

August Finish - 3 taggies

I have been very neglectful of my blog - and catching up with other bloggers - of late.  No idea why but I will try to rectify this.

I noticed that I am not showing many finishes lately - apart from my crochet blocks - and I have been busy on other WIPs etc that don't count as finishes, but there have been a couple - so I am posting now so I can keep track.

One finish was 3 more taggies - I forgot to take a separate shot of these so the picture from the SS blog will have to suffice.  
One went to my new grandson Milo, one was gifted to De for her new granddaughter and one went to a grand niece of John's who has just had a baby girl.

I know of one more I need to make by the end of the year. so will probably make a couple then . . .in case!

Taggies

There are a few friends (4) who are having new additions to the family - one happened to "like" the last taggie I made, so I offered to make her one, then there were a few more . . .and it's easier to make several at once rather than individually,
So here are the four.  Three are very similar as I was trying to use what I have for now . . .

FNWF - March

Another fun night gathered with Cheryll & cyber friends - sewing or crafting of some sort.

I did my RSC for March - yellow/gold was the theme - such a happy colour!

I also prepped three taggies which I hope to finish over the weekend.

FNSI - February

The usual monthly Friday Night gathering with Wendy for FNSI.

I started - not unusually with some crochet whilst watching BH&G

then moved onto making this taggie to go with the baby quilt for my work colleague

Doesn't look like a lot - but it seems to have used up most of my night! - And some progress is better than none!

A Plethora of Baby Taggies & A Dementia Mat

It seems there is a baby boom - some have suggested it's a COVID thing...I'm not asking.

Dementia Mat

A local shop - Echidna Sewing - have a charity project each month - I don't often get a chance to participate but this month it was a Dementia Mat - and I had time off work so thought I could whip up a couple - LOL - it was not quick - so I only did one.

It has zips, buttons, buttons under tulle, shoe lace through eyelets, a pocket, ribbons...I hope it helps soothe a soul.

FNWF - May 2021

I've been able to get a bit of extra sewing in lately...but tonight I thought I'd focus on something different....

One of DD2's Cousins-in-Law  (is that even a real term???) had baby #2 last week and I hadn't yet made a taggie for her . . .but there is a plethora of babies on the horizon - so if I'm making one ready to gift on Sunday - I may as well make the others - right??

There are 4 needed in the immediate future - 2 girl ones - one boy one and one "unknown".  Darn - I didn't have any "boy" minky so I couldn't finish that one....the rest just need the edge sewn together and some top stitching - easily done by the end of Saturday night.

The other lot of sewing I've been doing is making cloth alphabet books - and again it's a bit of a production line - making 3 at a time.  Hopefully, I will have one finished by mid June for DD2's Baby Shower....maybe even earlier...(fingers crossed).

FNSI - October

I was so glad to read that Mr B was recovering after last month's scare - I imagine Wendy is doing a lot of "nursemaid" duty at the moment - but she still managed to group us together for a virtual sew-in.

A week ago I made a taggie for DD2 to gift to a work colleague for her baby shower.

The friend was SO impressed (??? pretty simple in my eyes) that she has asked me to make another one for a friend of hers (getting paid this time...LOL)

Whilst I was at it I made a second one for one DD1's friends.  This one is a bit smaller as my supply of minky is limited so I'm trying to use what I have.

I also spent some time hand sewing the binding on my UFO #8 ready for Sunday Stitchers. That's a bit of a boring thing - so you will have to wait til I've finished it all.

Tonight,(Saturday night)  I will be joining another cyber sewing night - via Zoom, Sunday is a day out sewing.  After a very torrid time at work lately - I am going to relax and enjoy it all.

July Projects

Crochet blocks for K4BN 

I'm still crocheting away whenever the opportunity strikes (refer to the comic here).

Since the last time I dropped off some blocks to Maria - in April - I have made another 31 blocks.

My Sunday Stitchers group are finally able to meet physically tomorrow - so off they go to her for some TLC, some black edging and joining to make blankets for cold, needy people.

Bluebird Lane

My UFO Number four July was #12 - that was going to be to 'knit some wool jumpers for penguins" (from wool kindly donated by Fiona) - but alas! by the time I got to do them - it seems there are plenty and they are no longer required.  (some mixed tenses here- my mother would have a stern word . . .)
So I was able to swap another project for #12. - I picked Bluebird Lane as it only needed the binding.  Many thanks to Fiona again for her lovely quilting.
I had no decent sized pieces to make the binding from - so I tried one of the destash sites - and lucky me - someone had half a metre of one of the reds that I was after so I was able to finish it easily enough.

Baby Quilt

And this time the baby quilt is for my hairdresser - well my "colourist".  (She has now had her baby girl.) Her mother has been cutting my hair for years (I must check - but at least 15), but she is now not working on "my day" so I am about to "train" the newbie in both colour and cut!. 

I have found this pattern to be so easy - the fabric can make it fun or pretty...whatever.

and I found a very cute backing:

I've made them so that the top finishes at 39" wide so only one length of fabric is needed for the backing.   And a very uncomplicated quilting pattern.

Taggies x 2

I added a taggie to go with the quilt  - again a very simple project, but fun to choose what bits get added.

My podiatrist's partner is also due to have a baby, (he doesn't know what the sex is) so if I'm making one  . . . I may as well make 2 . . .

I had posted these earlier but they weren't quite finished.

Phew - a productive month and it's not over yet!
But as I'm off to Townsville for a week - there may not be any more finishes for July.

December finishes

December is always a crazy month in terms of getting things finished....the critical secret stuff happens - but not much more.

My daughter also made an ornament for us - and it features the same cute grandson...LOL

December is not over yet - I have a bit more to post - it will have to wait.

In the meantime there is some socialising to do and more baby cuddles to get while I can.
