It's so cute. I used crushed walnut shells and silicone beads to fill it. It's heavy so I think it will work well and not get knocked off the table too often.
Sunday: I used my pin cushion a bit today - I'm not sure I like having walnut shells in it - It is quite difficult to push the pins in. Has anyone else used crushed walnut shells before?? How do you find it?
Also on Friday I received a lovely gift from Cath - see here where I won the giveaway for May.
She included a lovely note - saying that a birdie has told her I like Purple - I wonder how the birdie knew that??
and here are my goodies - a fat quarter - very yummy, a variegated thread (LUV variegated threads) & some buttons - all lovely - thanks again Cath.
And - only a short time ago I received the book I had won from Aunt Marti in March - there was a good reason for the delay - so don't blame her or the US Postal Service. It's got some great projects in it - and some recipes - some of them look very tempting - I just have to convert some of the "American" products (like Monterey Jack Cheddar). And the book has been autographed.
I have been so lucky with Giveaways!!

I love your sweet pin cushion, Susan :-)
Love the pincushion. I've never used walnut shells. I use sand in mine, keeps my pins nice and sharp so they say. xxx

Your pincushion looks great!
I love that pin cushion. The shape is a bit different . I have never tried walnut shells because they were not easy to find . These days if my pins are not sharp I throw them away and get new ones.
My comment disappeared so if this is duplicate I am sorry..... lovely wins... always so nice to get parcels in the post.... I have a pincushion that was given to me with walnut shells... no problems with it but it is loosely packed. I use the silicone beads for a bit of weight but only under the poly stuffing....
I love your pincushion... so cheerful ...

You have to be Brad Pitt just to get noticed by the woman of your dreams, you have
to plan everything, you will have a positive change. Do not get two.
Getting a How do you Get a girlfriend is that a boy or girl will tell you not to let it
in.
love that pincushion, so cute! I've never had walnut shells. my fave one is filled with sand (stays right where I put it). I do have a couple with fluff but I tend to knock them off the table.
I can help you translate the "American" in that book if you like..
xx debbie
Great job on the pincushion Susan - the purple is a real winner!
About the walnut shell, I have not used it, but it's claimed to help the pins/needles stay sharp and not rust. Modern metals used to make needles and pins take a very long time to deteriorate, and they are probably blunt long before they rust anyway, so lots of sites are now saying that a fibre fill of some type is fine, with some type of weighting like Fiona's silicone beads is fine.
That said, recently out of interest, I located a seller of walnut shell - a reptile specialist store - $35 for a 5 kilo bag of it!! It's used for the aquariums of reptiles/spiders/lizards apparently...
Hope all that is helpful info!!
Beautiful pin cushion - I would never have thought of crushed walnut shells.
Congratulations on your win
and another beautiful pin cushion
made. They're cute.
Cheers, Anita.
