Sunday Stitchers - Challenge #1 - Red & black vase of flowers (ex Inca)

An easy finish for this month's challenge.

This block had been well and truly started by my friend Inca, who is sadly no longer with us.  When helping to clear out her things, I found this block, probably 75% complete and thought it would make a good block to pass to Helen for her "random blocks quilt" that she might get to one day...LOL

Fortunately, I had a collection of felt flowers made in a Wendy William class many moons ago, so I was able to use them to finish off the barren stems.

I have left the orange flower at the top unfinished, so that it can be placed as high as possible and go over the seam line.

Inca's Christmas Wall Hangings

My friend Inca passed away in January this year.  😢

Maureen and I helped her husband go through her sewing things—which were very well organized - and we found a Natalie Bird Christmas panel that had been completed but not made up.
We thought it would be nice to make 4 hangers - Oone for each of her grandchildren.  We aimed to finish them by Christmas this year.
Maureen & I had a planning and cutting day and we each ended up with two piles of stitched blocks and various fabric squares.

We are finished with the hangers and will add a rod to each one to make them easy for the parents to hang.

I have finished a few quilts of Inca's as well as these and it brings back lovely memories...I can hear her talking to me as I work!

SIMS Birthdays 2023

Our little SIMS group (Susan Inca Maureen & Sue) meets monthly and do Birthdays by going out for lunch and giving a small gift.

This year we decided we would each make a postcard using "Nature" as the theme.

Inca originally comes from Holland - so I decided to stick with the Dutch theme and use Tulips on my postcard to her.

The tulips are a machine embroidery applique design and I found a postcard machine embroidery design.  I was hoping for a lovely edge to finish off my postcard, so was a bit disappointed that it's a blanket stitch...but I wanted to try it anyway.  I was not overly impressed with the design file, nor with the instructions...but I learnt stuff and overall I'm happy with it.

 Giving Inca her gift was delayed somewhat - but it has now been safely delivered.
